Meet Farmer Hamm

I"ve been photographing and chatting with Farmer Hamm for years at the Pepper Place. Now days, I get to enjoy his produce year long when I dine at Johnny's in Homewood.  Tim buys only the freshest Alabama produce and he and Farmer Hamm are a great team. Note the hat.

P.S. The whole fried okra is to die for.

I've photographed this sweet girl since she was a wee thing. Last Saturday, she was enjoying a Steel City Pop while waiting on her Mom and Dad ( Cliff and Maureen Holt/ Little Savannah) to finish up their Chef's Demonstration at Pepper Place Market.

Ona's Music Room has moved to the Pepper Place after  15 years on 20th Street South.  I visited during the day and the light on this wonderful wall of photographs caught my eye. Now I'm ready to head back there one night and experience the music I've been hearing about for years!

Name The Mushrooms!

You know how photographers are.  We go in for the shot and then the important information, like what type mushrooms these are, goes right past us.  I do know that they were from Sanctuary Farms in Glencoe, AL.  Visit their stand at the Pepper Place Market.  While you're there, find out about these gorgeous mushrooms for me.

Just kidding. The owners were kind enough to email me the results late last night,  they are....OYSTER MUSHROOMS.  Who knew!!!

Saturday, April 13th marks the day that our Pepper Place Market cranks back up.  These cartons will be brimming over with whatever Alabama farmers have to offer. I can't wait!

Windys by Lindy at the Pepper Place Market every Saturday.  Stop by and she her delightful windchimes made from items she's collected from years gone by.

Organic Bike Rack

Charlie Thigpen has a great garden shop, Garden Gallery, at the Pepper Place. This vine covered wall had welcomed this old bike complete with planted basket. I've loved watching it through the seasons.

Mint To Be

Your choice... mint juleps or iced tea with fresh mint. Either way... a winner.

Cooling Off at the PPM!

Whoever thought up the misting tent at the Pepper Place Market deserves a raise!   By 10 o'clock it was already hot as hades so the kids, and a few big folks, took advantage of the cool mist.  I gave it serious thought myself,  but remembered what a bad hair day I'd have,  so I just took photos instead.
