Fort Morgan

* Last month when I was in Paris, my dear friend Jean Reed subbed for me. For the last few days her friend Robert has shared a few photos with us. Robert lives in LA ( Lower Alabama!) in Baldwin County. Thanks Robert!

Fort Morgan is a historic site at the eastern edge of Mobile Bay. Built in 1819-1834 for the defenses of Mobile Bay, it is a fun site to tour on a beautiful day! The museum is very interesting and the battles here are well documented and artifacts from the site are well-preserved.

Great arches - perfect framing of the "frames!" C'est formidable! Regards from EAGAN daily photo

This is a pretty shot of the arches inside the fort. I love that they go on and on and on. Did y'all know that that Battle of Mobile Bay was on August 5th? They should either have had a reenactment this weekend or next weekend. I love that! They shoot the cannons and soldiers and women in period dress stroll the grounds and they have old fashioned fiddling and demonstrations. That is a fun place to be when they are doing all of that!

I am one who goes out of his way to see some of the old forts. I have read a lot about them here around where we live and how they enabled us and this state to be settled. Though at a horrible cost to the Native Americans.

Is it possible to get 10,000 visitors, in a short period of time, on my new blog, Pick a Peck of Pixels? If you go there, please either become a Follower or leave a comment. Help me Make History.

Yes, the reenactment of the Battle of Mobile Bay at Ft. Morgan was this weekend---Fri. Sat. and Sunday. According to the paper it was a big success---complete with replica ships and soldiers in period wool uniforms. Can you imagine? It is an annual event at this time of year!
