In The Playhouse

This sweet girl was enjoying a few quiet moments in the playhouse as the rest of the playground was full of squealing friends.

Have a Seat

Well maybe not.  Actually, these are the sides of old theatre seats. I know, they look like a bunch of old crutches.  Stored in the office building of the Lyric, they could have been from the Lyric or the Alabama. Anyway, they seem at attention, ready and willing to be called back on duty.

Playing With Sparks

I had the pleasure of visiting Chris Fennell's studio at Wade Sand and Gravel a few days ago.  Chris' sculpture defies the imagination.  Try and picture a Bicycle Tornado, car doors that will become a soaring hawk or a zillion baseball bats all welded together. His imagination is endless. I was thrilled  to watch the end of a huge outside art installation that will soon reside in Scottsdale.  He was kind enough to not only show me around but let me photograph the process. Another new friend. Thank you Chris!

Thank you , thank you Chris Fennell for showing me around Wade Sand and Gravel today. I have zillions of photos to share of this place and Chris' wonderful sculptures and studio there in the very near future. Today, some industrial color.

Raindrops on Roses

A little field trip last Friday led us to a beautiful home and rose garden on Lake Logan Martin.  As we turned off the interstate it started to rain.  What seemed like a potential disaster for a photo shoot turned into magic!  The shower stopped upon our arrival and each and every blossom sparkled. Kay Taylor, my rose expert, tells me this is Just Joey!

will light up the Lyric again,  one day very soon. Because of the generous donors, the historic Lyric Theatre will again shine and provide a wonderful venue for our city!

I took this several years ago at the Homewood High School Homecoming Parade.  I still love the memories in this reflection. Community, Schools, Music, Team Spirit, Good Times.

As most of you know after 6 years, my personal, professional and blog lives often collide!  Yesterday was very special.  Sweet Hill's baptism and such sweet tootsies.

Chess Hands

Sometimes watching chess players, the hands are more interesting than the moves.

A New Home

I stopped by M Power's Community Garden in Avondale a few days ago and was fascinated with the dried okra pods.  BTW, if you don't know okra, you're not from around here.  When I loaded my photos, I was delighted to see a critter had made a new home.

The Tin Man

Last week I was captivated by Birmingham artist Donna Sophronia-Sims' Cast of Characters at Artwalk 2014.  Each unique character, made from found objects brought a smile.

How Sweet the Sound

Imagine my delight when I arrived at Doug and Sandy Tilt's fabulous loft on Saturday morning before Art Walk commenced, and was greeted by the beautiful sounds of electric violinist Bethany Borg.  Her music was magical and the light falling on her exquisite face begged me to photograph her, over and over and over.

JUMP!!!!

Yesterday afternoon, Independent Presbyterian Church held a community cookout after their 5:00 o'clock service.  It was a great afternoon full of hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, live music, and face painting and the all time favorite "jumpy jump" for the kids. It was a wonderful way for church members to welcome the neighborhood. Might I add, I had a BALL!

Another Great Artwalk!

Since 2002, Birmingham's Artwalk has been one of our city's very best events! This year was no exception.  I shot this through the window this morning at WELD.  Last night,  creative kids had fun making their mark on the event.

The Last Flips Of Summer

Well to be perfectly honest, here in Birmingham, flip flops are still going strong. We don't recognize AUTUMN for quite a while.

Thank you Alley Bulka and your Wacky Nanny Art Camp kiddos for this photo!

Meet Farmer Hamm

I"ve been photographing and chatting with Farmer Hamm for years at the Pepper Place. Now days, I get to enjoy his produce year long when I dine at Johnny's in Homewood.  Tim buys only the freshest Alabama produce and he and Farmer Hamm are a great team. Note the hat.

P.S. The whole fried okra is to die for.

Presentation is Everything.....

even at the Pepper Place Market. Sanctuary Farms always nails it for me and my camera. Their produce is homegrown and fabulous as well.

CDP Theme Day - Rust and Ruin

Today my fellow City Daily Photo bloggers are posting their take on this month's theme - RUST AND RUIN. This was easy. I love this stairway on Morris Avenue in downtown Birmingham. I think it fits the theme quite well.  For more of my fellow bloggers' theme photos, click right HERE!
