Birmingham Rouge - One of My Favorites

I hope all of my BTML readers had a beautiful holiday. I"m back and hope to post more from the Ham in the new year. Today, I"m dragging out one of my favorites. This great red truck sat in a neighbor's driveway and I lusted over it every time I drove past. I caught it during a brief B'ham snow a few years ago. I still love it.

Snowcapped

I had only to step outside my apartment to capture this last Friday. We love our random snows in Birmingham. We especially love it when it comes and goes quickly without lost of power.

It's Sticking!!!!!

The two words that either strike fear in the hearts of Alabama drivers or glee in the hearts of children. Tonight I can report that after a spattering of sleet at noon, it appears that we will be now having a somewhat respectable Alabama snowfall. It's sticking and tomorrow I'll carefully step out with my camera and maybe have some current photos for you. Tonight I share a photo from two years ago, just outside my window.

Maybe....Maybe Not

This is the game we play here in Alabama. We have unseasonably warm weather, meaning no coats yet, then BAM, we get this hint of a snow tomorrow night and the whole state goes into lock down. The max accumulation here is suppose to be MAYBE 2 inches, more likely less, but the stores are running out of milk and bread. I'm more concerned about my wine supply. Stay tuned. If we get a "dusting" I"ll be out on the sidewalk snapping photos!

Late Breaking Snow!

I was headed to bed when I had one last look outside and saw snow falling. Children, home from school today, waited and watched, waited and watched but at last there are flakes! From my balcony.

More Snow On My Roof?

Pardon, we are all bit shell shocked from the last snow dump that left everyone in Birmingham scrambling to get home. Now there's a hint of icy rain etc and we have already shut down. Stay tuned.

Just A Week Ago Today......

My little balcony last Tuesday just as the snow started to fall

Mother Nature dumped a load of snow,  in just a few hours and brought Birmingham to a standstill that lasted almost three days.  Today we are grateful that we've had a nice warming trend and hopefully won't have another flake this winter!

Rockin' Robin

I suspect he and his pals were on their way through town and stopped for a meal in the snow before making their way south.

Wheeeeeeee

Despite temps well below freezing today, the kiddos in my neighborhood had fun at Triangle Park.  Not much of a hill but if you get a big push from Dad, you would make it all the way down!

Meanwhile our interstates and roads are still impossibly clogged with stalled/wrecked/abandoned cars and with the expectation of low temperatures again tonight, the refreezing will make it even more difficult. The good news is that many people have gotten home or at least to a warm place and most, but not all of the teachers and students that spent last night in their schools, have been able to go home.

Coming In For A Landing

Well as most of you know, Birmingham had a huge surprise yesterday morning. Mother Nature had the last laugh on the meteorologists and dumped about 3 inches of the white stuff on our fair city in about two hours time. To say it caught everyone off guard is an understatement. All over B'ham, people have abandoned their cars and tried to walk home or sought shelter, and many school children and teachers are sleeping in schools tonight. It's a hot mess. I'm fortunate,
as I got to the grocery store and back home in record time and spent the rest of the day taking periodic trips outside for photos. I spied this fat cardinal and stalked him for as long as he'd let me. I got several shots but this one of his approach to the bird feeder was my favorite.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrr

It's not snowing this much in Birmingham today, but it's one of the coldest winter days we've seen in a few years!  I found this photo from one of our freaky one day snowfalls a few years ago and decided to share.

Last Rose

The snowfall in Birmingham was predictably short lived. It was gone by this morning for the most part. Still another image to share.

It Snowed Yesterday

It doesn't happen all that often anymore. Get ready for a few days of snow photos.

Deck the Deck With ....

SNOW!   Some of you may remember that last Christmas Day right here in B'ham, it SNOWED!!!  Our weather this week has been in the sixties,  so I don't look for a repeat, but thought it would be fun to have a look back to Christmas past.   This was taken on my daughter Kathleen's deck last Christmas.  White Christmas in Dixie.  Who knew!

It's My Blog.......

and I'll post my cute grandchildren on a whim. Taken last Christmas Day when it started snowing in Birmingham.  I've lived here most of my life and NEVER had it snow on Christmas until 2010.  Laura Kate sends her sweet wishes for a magical holiday season. ( The cute pink cap I knitted for big sister Lindley when she was a BABY. We've gotten some miles out of that one!)

Get To The Point

We had a brief but pretty snowfall last Wednesday evening. I was a bit busy Thursday so I had to rush out in the backyard and try and get a few shots for you. My neighbor's picket fence.

Bama Snow

Rockford Road International Airport closed due to snow

I think I've rubbed this in enough, but just in case... here in Alabama we have the best snow situation. Most of the time it snows, well we might have to close the city down for a day or two, but then it melts and life moves on.  Sometimes.. it's even better. Well it snows like the dickens and then the next day by noon we're back to normal. Talk about the best of both worlds!  That's what happened Wednesday night.  We had us a really pretty, fluffy snowfall but by morning we were all good to go!  I can't even remember a time we had snow when the schools were open that morning. Lord have mercy, we're acting like a bunch of Yankees around here! :)

My thanks to Maureen and Cliff Holt , Little Savannah Restaurant and Bar, who graciously allowed me to exhibit my photographs for the coming month. We had an opening reception tonight and I was so thrilled and touched that so many of my dear friends stopped in.  Special thanks to my daughter Kathleen and friend Martha Ann Doyal who helped me hang the exhibit. Without them, it would not have happened. My Right Brain has totally taken over.... I was pretty useless.

Meeps' First Snowfall

Yesterday, basically out of the blue ( the weather men had not whipped us into a pre-snow frenzy for days), we had some sleet and then a nice little snowy afternoon.  Meeps got her first taste of it.

WHAT??

Well you Yankees can keep your white Christmases.  We had our very own yesterday, right here in Alabama!  I'll  admit it was my first one in Birmingham...ever!!!  And it was just the way we like it, pretty but didn't stick on the roads.
 Sing it Bing!

My Pal Riley

If you're thinking I've got a new pup, sadly no. This is my buddy Riley. His humans are Jan and Mike Dulin. Riley goes to the recording studio with Mike most days, so when I show up for work ( I use that term loosely) I'm greeted with much barking and tail thumping and the occasional slobber! I wish I thought he just loved me to pieces, but I suspect it's the dog treats I bring him. (Don't tell Mike, Riley's suppose to be on some silly diet.) Well today Jan Dulin is my guest photographer. She took this during our last snow. I think it's just great, thanks Jan! If you want to see more snow photos of Riley and fam, check out Mike's blog.

Jan's not the only one to give me the day off. On of my photography students, Marty Lange, has graciously shared this wonderful photograph. The old office building at the Watkins Brick Company in Ensley.
