2 THINGS CHALLENGE - The Calm Before the Storm

While enjoying my "girls' weekend" (I use the term girls loosely)  at Lake Martin this past wekend,  another gal dropped in .... Hurricane Fay!   Yep, she blew up from the coast on Friday night and hung around till Sunday.  To say she tried to put a damper on things is an understatement.  Well,  if you can't sit on the dock and enjoy the sun and the view ,  jump in the car and shop!  We made the best of a rainy weekend by doing just that .  My entry for the  2THINGS CHALLENGE  of  Hard/Soft is a teensy bit of a stretch but here goes.  The SOFT light of this fabulous sunset last Friday was a prelude to the  HARD rain that came through within hours.  Click above to see this week's challenge participants and their clever interpretations of Hard/Soft.

Lake Martin, located about an hour and a half  SE of Birmingham,  is one of the largest artificial lakes in the U.S.   A beautiful place,  rain or shine.

Tune du Jour: "Remember When It Rained" by Josh Groban,  one of my very favorites artists.

great photo virginia!
it looks as if the sky is brewing some wicked summer storm. and yes, delicious sunset.
what's 2 things challenge? another weekly thing just like skywatch friday?
and don't worry - your interpretation isn't too much of a stretch. besides, it's way more fun creeping out from convention.
i await tomorrow :)

We got our share of Fay ourselves. We had to board up and batten down and now we're experiencing the last rain out of the stray feeder bands. It's always something. Looking at your picture I think this might be one of those rare instances where
Red sky at night, sailor's delight
Red sky at morning, sailor take warning
didn't apply.

Lovely prelude to less than clement weather, and in this instance you got the lemonade before the lemons arrived.

To answer your question about what I sell at the Pike Place Market ... photography :) Thanks for your recent visits and comments.

At least you got this wonderful well pictured sunset before the rain, Virginia!! What a contrast that must have been.

I am sure you had a good time with the other girls.

Sorry to hear you had your share of Fay... gladly you took this picture before, cause it is absolutelly wonderful! Virginia, think positive: as the lake is so near your place, you will be back very soon!

As to your comment, I've answered on your previous post :-)

Lateral thinking is the best form.
Obviously there is the most beautiful skywatch image, but your interpretation of the 2 thing challenged served the images better.

Thanks everyone. This was my first sunset attempt. You all have been my inspiration week after week. As a note, i fiddled with the exposure a tad to lighten it a bit. Otherwise this is how God painted the sky that evening.

Great interpretation of the theme.

This is a BEAUTIFUL capture … love the colors. I’m almost Wordless at Sacred Ruminations today ... playing with 'filters' in Photoshop and adding a little Haiku for explanation even though it's not Friday. I'm 'whimsical' at Small Reflections today as I intend to do what I can to catch up from the last few days.
Hugs and blessings,

Beautiful photograph. I see you have posted since, so I guess you 'weathered' FAY.

Well, I'm way behind in my commenting. Love this photo! You did a great job interpreting this challenge. You might think it's a stretch, but I love the softness of the light complimented by the stark hardness of the shadows and silhouettes. Well done!
