Continental Bakery in Birmingham's English Village neighborhood, has fabulous breads and pastries. The ambiance is icing on the cake. (I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself.) You really do get the feeling of shopping in a French boulangerie. It has so much charm, it is tempting to sit at this table pour deux near the window for hours. I can sum up the experience in two words....pain au chocolat! Enough said.

This is such a cozy scene that metal somehow never enters your mind. The colors are very Italian the atmosphere is pure romance...and we've not even gotten to the chocolate croissant. :) Enjoy Virginia!
i like places like this a lot. I find them usually better then fancy places:)
This is a great choice for the theme day photo. I was excited to see what you would do!
Looks like a fantastic spot to sip coffee and read something philosophical. ANd those red walls! Love them!
Nice picture we can feel the atmosphere through your lense, nice illustration of this theme day.
Very cozy. The metal is so shiny and the wall color is lovely with the uneven tones. Super theme day post.
J'aime le rouge du mur, qui fait ressortir la couleur des chaises. La musique est agréable aussi. Et pourtant je n'aime guère la musique sur un blog ...
Lovely shot, Virginia. "Icing on the cake" has its French equivalent which is "la cerise sur le gâteau" ("the cherry on the cake"). So now you're ready to go again to this bakery!
j'aime beaucoup ton choix pour le thème du mois, c'est très poétique je trouve et très différent des autres blogs. bravo
I love your choice for this month's theme is very poetic and I find it very different from other blogs. Bravo
Nice, nice... and soon, you will again be able to compare with the real stuff!
Table for two, please! Perfect for the morning espresso and croissants. I must admit, my favorite was almond croissant at the corner boulangerie next to the hotel.
Perfect choice for the theme day! The table does look very inviting. I'll have a capuccino and a cinnamon bun, please!
Oh this is absolutely charming. And what a great idea for Theme Day. I love this place, those walls, the paintings, and I'll take your word for the fabulous breads and pastries! Now this would be a super place to sit - an espresso, a pastry and put the world to rights.
Great theme day choice! Love that red wall!
Virginia, you're master of colour! This picture is rich and at the same time, peacefully. I love it!
Totally adorale. The paint job on the wall really add a lot of character to the ambiance.
May I have a cafe au lait with skim milk and an almond croissant please?
Great lighting and shadow here. I wouldn't mind a creme et croissant chocolat myself.
And I'm giggling to think of croissants in the English Village.
Wait till I post a picture of the outside. It is a very English storefront. The whole shopping area is only a block or so long and very "English" in feel, but right next to the bakery is .....Chez Lulu!
I love this photo! I'm so glad you used it for this month's theme day. Well done, V!
Happy Theme Day!
Janet
If I didn't know, I'd swear it was from Europe!
I really love this shot - real rustic look about it.
Very nice photo. I like the composition and the colors very much. Chocolate croissant is my favorite too; it is just enough to satisfy a chocolate craving.
it looks like a classical American painting. I can almost feel the quietitude (did I spell it correctly? :D) and the peaceful atmosphere of the scene. Great choice for the metal theme day, Virginia!
I'd love to have a chocolate croissant at his table pour deux. Love the wall as well.
Virgina,
This photograph makes me think of my childhood in France. Sweet memories. Thanks for visiting my new Daily Photo blog. I didn't know what I would find when I set out to photograph metal but I'm happy with the BBQ theme.
Yes please. Unfortunately the Uk Birmingham just doesn't have the climate or civilised enough redidents for outside dining.
This is painting.
Great !
